Cawanna Anise McMichael - Profile

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice everywhere"
- MLK, Jr. Letter from the Birmingham Jail, 1963

To begin, it is great to come home, back to my native city of Carrollton, Georgia and the entire West Georgia area. I am beyond thrilled to bring my passion for seeking justice to the place where I have such deep personal and family connections. I am a proud Lion, graduating from Central-Carroll High in 2001. I first attended the University of Georgia but finished my B.A. in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. During that time, I lived life, married, had children, went through divorce. I now co-parent with Georgia Bulldogs All-American and NFL tight-end, Randy McMichael, two energetic and charismatic children, Isaiah David and Kai Marie.

Throughout living a very interesting and exciting life, I could not quench my passion for fighting for others. So being the die-hard Bulldog that I am, I returned "full circle" and obtained my Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. In my studies at Georgia Law, I was blessed to have some amazing opportunities such as studying abroad for a summer in China, and writing a Georgia Supreme Court brief for Swindle Law Group, ironically. Additionally, I have also prepared myself for the rigors of law practice by:

  • Clerking for Hon. Linda T. Walker – Chief US Magistrate for the United States District Court – Northern District of Georgia;
  • Working for United States Department of the Interior - Southeast Regional Solicitor Office;
  • Training with Northeast Georgia Regional Capital Defender's Office; and the Western Judicial Circuit Public Defender Office.
  • Being a zealous, successful, and well-respected Assistant Public Defender in the Augusta Judicial Circuit.

I now come "full circle" again; back home, back to my family and back to Swindle Law Group. Senior Partner, Jason W. Swindle says, "When I met Cawanna, I saw the raw legal talent beginning to refine. Now, we have her back as legal warrior to complete our team. We could not be more excited or blessed." However, the reality is that it is me who is blessed to have the opportunity to come home and fight for the people of the community who nurtured me.
